The scene at the end 😮— SAVE for 2025 ⤵️
We visited Guatemala to hike a giant volcano, yet this ‘Easter month’ event may be our most memorable…
WHAT ⤵️
The Easter procession in Antigua, Guatemala, is a deeply religious event. It involves intricate processions where LRG wooden floats, or “andas,” adorned with statues depicting scenes from the Passion of Christ, are CARRIED through the streets. The processions are accompanied by bands 🎶 and HUNDREDS of robbed participants. It’s incredibly moving to witness!
What we loved most 🥹—neighborhoods, families, friends band together to mix indigenous Mayan cultures with Catholic rituals. Together they make colorful carpets (“alfambras”) that span miles.
