A waxing gibbous moon setting in hazy skies in New York. July 20, 2021. When I landed in New York after returning from Yellowstone a few days ago (pictures coming soon!), I noticed the weather conditions looked oddly similar. Specifically, the hazy sky, which in Montana, had been caused by wildfires. I didn’t think much of it because I thought there was no way that the smoke could’ve reached New York. When I went outside that night, I noticed that the haze made the moon look orange. The next day, I learned it the weather conditions were in fact from a wildfire in Oregon. Long story short, it was almost like the wildfires followed us back home. Nikon D7000 with Tamron 150-600 G2 lens. 1/25 sec at f/6.3 ISO 800. 600mm lightly cropped. (Note: Typically I wouldn’t shoot the moon at this slow a shutter speed, but the haze made the moon less bright. When at 1/250 sec, my ISO was at 3200 and was still underexposed. That image is so grainy that on my computer, I can’t see a significant diff...
