Invisible Injuries / My Sister’s Accident It was an ordinary day in New Lenox. July is hot and sticky, kids are out of school, and I’m playing with Polly Pockets at my best friends house, a few houses down from mine. I’m 6 years old. My brother is in band camp. My mom is out. My father passed the year before. My 11 year old blonde, string bean sister jumped on her bike to go across the street to her friends house, still in the neighborhood. She looked both ways like we were taught. And then that day changed our lives. March is Brain Injury Awareness month. A condition that has very little exposure, but rules the lives of many. From every day falls, soldiers, and athletes- a concussion is just a step away from a brain injury. In episode 3 of FIO I tell my sister’s story from my perspective, and I interview her and my mother as well. (21:29 in the podcast) Please listen and learn how we can be better to the people in our communities with Invisible Illnesses. Swipe to learn...
