I’ve spent a long time shrinking, believing “if I was just ____ then I’ll be happy”. I believed that if I looked a certain way my life would flip and I’d no longer be an alone, depressed kid- maybe THEN I’d have all these friends, I’d be in love, I’d have my grades together, etc. I convinced myself that MAYBE I was so unhappy because I was LAZY.
I got to 88lbs and all I had was more sadness and an aching stomach. All my energy was spent thinking of food, of how to burn it off, how to convince my family I was okay. I lost the weight and I was too tired do all the things I wanted to.
Powerlifting allowed me to look at food as a resource to enable my strength and prioritize my health. I am more than a body, I’m more than a wage, more than a degree.
It’s easy to get consumed in this fitness world and forget what we sought out for in the first place.
