Peaking for powerlifting is a strategic and highly focused phase in an athlete’s training cycle during the last few weeks leading up to a competition. A peaking phase aims to maximize the athlete’s performance on the meet day. This is done by fine-tuning strength, technique, and overall readiness. A successful peaking program in preparation for a meet usually involves a taper. A taper typically includes reducing training volume, maintaining intensity, and decreasing physiological and psychological fatigue without taking time away from training, which could negatively impact performance. Tips for a successful taper: 1️⃣Reduce training volume by ~30% 2️⃣Maintain intensity or reduce by about 5% 3️⃣Complete training cessation should be no more than 2-3 days 4️⃣Most tapers begin 7-10 days out. #powerlifting #squat #benchpress #deadlift #workouttips #empowerlift #empowerlifttraining #reformance #reformancetraining
