It’s been a minute since I posted a bench video. Here’s a snippet of my bench workout from the other day. I worked up to 105kg (231) for a single. This lift wouldn’t count in a meet because I failed to maintain the 3-points of contact. I’m too concerned since it’s never been an issue in a meet but definitely something to be mindful on during future sessions.
If you struggle with your butt coming off the bench when pressing, try pushing down and forward into the ground instead of just pushing down. You can also try playing around with different foot positions; either placing your feet further back behind your or widening your stance slightly. When performed correctly, the bench press can actually be thought of as a full body exercise. The purpose of using leg drive is to help push the bar back and away from your chest - creating the signature j-curve bar path. Using leg drive effectively and at the appropriate time takes practice.
