Unless your goal is to break a record or win first at a meet in a specific weight-class, I typically don’t recommend weight cuts. Maintaining strength and muscle mass while in a caloric deficit is not only difficult but can also add additional unnecessary stress to of trying to make weight. If you do decide to cut weight for a meet, I recommend doing it slowly and over a course of several weeks or months depending on how much weight you have to lose – especially if your federation requires a 2-hr weigh in.
