Meet day jitters are completely normal and comes with the territory of competition. I still get pretty anxious on meet day. Here’s a few tips to minimize meet day stress so you can focus on performing your best:
Learn commands beforehand. There’s nothing more frustrating than getting red lighted over something silly like missing the rack command. I’ve witnessed experienced lifters do this in competition. Practice pausing your bench, and waiting an extra second at the top of your squat before re-racking. This will hopefully become second nature so on meet day you’re prepared. Practice how you play!
Bring lots of food and water. Most meets last around 4 hours but I’ve been to a few that have lasted longer than that. It’s always good to be prepared. Foods high in carbs, moderate amount of protein, and low in fats are ideal.
