Horizontal force output is the 🔑 for fast sprinting ability. Ground reaction force is vertical AND horizontal. This output could be high for a very strong athlete, but times are slow because they do not orient this force horizontally (research by JB Morin)
So much research has gone into vertical force output using motorized treadmills. Because athletes are dropped into a belt moving 20-23 mph , it’s missing two key factors: 1) how did they accelerate to that speed? 2) how do they maintain that speed? Their ability to continue to put force into the ground is LARGELY dependent on horizontal force outputs
Over the past few years athletes have loaded up hex bar deadlifts to increase their strength to body weight ratio. Which it step 1. Step 2 is develop horizontal power by using a combination of drills and individual based resistance. Step 3 is transmit this new force to the ground with the right amount of stiffness (ankle/foot reactivity/strength)
