Introducing the concertmaster for the Erie County Music Educators Association Senior High Symphonic Orchestra: Sam Gugliuzza ’25 of North Tonawanda.
Gugliuzza received a perfect score of 100 in his initial audition for the ensemble when he played violin solo “Banjo and Fiddle” by William Kroll. That audition was a Level 6 solo, the highest level of difficulty.
At a subsequent rehearsal, Gugliuzza earned the seat of concertmaster, the highest honor for a violinist. The concertmaster leads the orchestra in its tuning prior to the concert, customarily plays the violin solos within pieces and is generally considered the best player in the orchestra.
Gugliuzza and the Senior High All-County orchestra performed last weekend at the University at Buffalo’s Slee Hall.
