The crew from our Ventura County Aviation Unit flew Helicopter 7 on its final flight yesterday, August 31st.
In 1997, Copter 7 was first placed into service for Ventura County. The aircraft was completely overhauled by the Ventura County Aviation Unit helicopter maintenance personnel, and it was used to replace an older aircraft. Originally a United States Army UH-1H helicopter, it was built in 1969 and retired by the Army in August 1990. Prior to being put back to work for Ventura County, Copter 7 had a long and distinguished career in the Army.
Throughout its 24-year career with Ventura County, Copter 7 was primarily used as a fire suppression aircraft and responded to multiple brush fires. It was modified to be completely night vision goggle compatible allowing for nighttime fire suppression activities.
