Deputy Bryce N. Patten
July 12, 1932 – August 19, 1960
Reserve Deputy Bryce Patten was shot and killed by robbery suspects while working a roadblock on Casitas Pass Road. The three suspects had taken $150 in a liquor store robbery. They shot Patten to avoid capture. The suspects were caught in Bakersfield six days later and prosecuted. Bryce was a full-time history teacher at Ventura High School and was described by his students as a teacher you like to work with. Bryce spent many hours honing his patrol skills, and also served children in the community as a Cub Scout Master.
