Today, VCSO, in association with the Peace Officers Association of Ventura County (POAVC), held an awards ceremony for the POAVC Medal of Valor and the CIT Deputy of the Year Award. As well, the Citizen’s Medal of Merit for Selfless Service, the Citizen’s Certificate of Commendation, and Unit Citations were awarded. This awards ceremony is generally held every two years, however for various reasons, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony was delayed until this date. In a series of posts, we will tell the stories of the good work and exceptional bravery demonstrated by our deputies and local residents.
• The Medal of Valor was presented to Sergeant Scott Duffner for his actions while off-duty and attending the Route 91 country music festival in Las Vegas, NV in 2017 which became an active shooter incident.
