The pandemic has presented many challenges, especially for school-aged kids and their families navigating distance learning. Our School Resource Officers (SROs) in Fillmore have recognized these challenges while working with the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clara Valley. The club, which serves Santa Paula, Fillmore & Piru, designed a program using COVID safety procedures that allow 20 children to attend school at their facilities. Students have access to tech-savvy staff, reliable internet, a place to study, and eat lunch each day. They are allowed to stay at the club after the school day ends to study and have a safe place to play outside of their home. SROs, who would normally be assigned to school sites, have assisted the club like it was another campus in the community.
