Search & Rescue Team Member Jeffrey “Jef” Dye October 25, 1968 - February 2, 2019 Jef Dye served as a member of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Fillmore Search and Rescue Team. Jef was highly skilled in areas of wilderness first aid, tracking, high angle rock rescue, swift water rescue, and alpine snow rescue. Members of the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team volunteer their time and skills to the citizens of Ventura County and are considered one of our most highly trained and valuable resources for backcountry search and rescue operations. On February 2, 2019, Jef and his teammates were traveling to Mt. Pinos in very difficult weather conditions to conduct training. The team came upon a serious traffic accident on the I-5 Freeway that involved a vehicle roll over. Jef and his teammates immediately went to work rescuing victims who were trapped inside the vehicle.
