Deputy Chester L. “Chico” Larson May 5, 1934 – January 20, 1969 Deputy Chico Larson, a 4-year veteran, who was stationed at Lockwood Valley, was rescuing a group of hikers stranded by a flooded Sespe Creek near Ojai. The bulldozer Chico was using to perform the rescue stalled in the middle of the river and he was washed off the top of the tractor along with 10 other victims. Only one of the hikers survived. Two days earlier, Chico had saved a group of 12 schoolgirls and two adults in the same area. #sheriffvc
