The Sheriff’s Honor Farm located in Ojai was opened in the 1920’s and remained in-service for the better part of 70 years. By the 1940’s, male inmates that worked the farm were able to produce enough food to feed the entire county jail population. At one time the farm had the distinction of being the largest pork producer in southern California. Pigs, cows, and rabbits were all raised on site mostly by inmates. By 1977 there were at least 160 inmates housed at the honor farm in Ojai.
