REPORT: #Flyers chose to not sign Cutter Gauthier after the 2022-23 season because they did not want a significant bonus overage penalty affecting their cap hit in the 2023-24 season, per Elliotte Friedman. There was reportedly a conversation after Gauthier’s NCAA 2022-23 season ended of Gauthier potentially turning pro. The Flyers said they couldn’t have Gauthier go pro at the time, and the reasoning they gave was that Gauthier’s bonuses within his contract would’ve put PHI over the salary cap, which would’ve in turn affected the Flyers cap situation in the 2023-24 season.
