First and foremost, get the right type of seat for your child’s age, height, weight and developmental level. Read your vehicle owner’s manual and the labels on the car seats you are considering buying.

All car seats should be correctly buckled in the back seat. Once you install the seat, you should not be able to move it more than one inch in either direction at the belt path. You can do this by using the seat belt or the LATCH system. Always use the top tether for forward-facing seats.
