Today is a special day in Hawaiʻi Nei. It’s the 150th Anniversary of Kamehameha Day. A state holiday where we honor the fearless, wise, and respected King Kamehameha the Great (aka Paiʻea aka Kamehameha I) who is credited with uniting the Hawaiian Islands in 1810. He was also Hawaiʻi’s first King!⁣ ⁣ #KamehamehaDay is traditionally honored with lei draping ceremonies, floral parades, and hula performances. Yesterday, preparations started with the #KingKamehameha Statue Lei Draping at Aliʻiōlani Hale in #Honolulu, pictured here. Today, our ʻohana in Oʻahu is celebrating the 150th Anniversary with the annual King Kamehameha Celebration Floral Parade in Waikīkī. The parade starts at King Street fronting Iolani Palace, then heads down Punchbowl Street to Ala Moana Boulevard and Kalakaua Avenue, and ends at Monsarrat Avenue and Queen Kapiolani Park.
