Hawaiʻi's queen, Queen Liliʻuokalani, was remembered for her tireless advocacy for native Hawaiian sovereignty from Iolani Palace in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. Liliʻuokalani spent her reign and life dedicated to restoring the health of the Hawaiian people that were weakened by disease and foreign influence, and to preserve native Hawaiian rights and traditions. One of her greatest passions was said to have been the Liliʻuokalani Educational Society, which provided schooling for impoverished Hawaiian girls. She also helped raise funds for the Queen’s Hospital, established a bank for women, as well as The Queen Liliʻuokalani Trust to support Hawaiian orphans which is still thriving today.
We’re honored to kick off Women's History Month with the appreciation of Queen Liliʻuokalani as an exceptional example of the grace, humility, fortitude, and perseverance needed to lead.
