In 1871, King Kamehameha V marked June 11 as #KamehamehaDay to honor Kamehameha the Great, the Mō‘ī (King) that united the Hawaiian Islands. This is celebrated with a series of cultural events including including the lei-draping ceremony of the Kamehameha statue pictured here and the 100th Kamehameha Day Floral Parade on O‘ahu and Hawai‘i Island.
