A historic journey begins: Hōkūle'a, a modern built traditional double-hulled voyaging canoe, will visit 26 countries, sail 47,000 miles and will be the first vessel of her kind to have circumnavigated the globe when she returns to Hawai'i in 2017. The three-decades old vessel is an icon and celebrated ambassador of Hawaiian culture and sustainability, launching on a #WorldwideVoyage today with her sister canoe Hikianalia to promote a traditional way of thinking for a more sustainable future. Last day prep work before the two wa‘a (canoes) depart this evening from Honolulu at 530pm.
