Across every creative sphere, Black ingenuity has undeniably shaped the Chicago arts and culture scene we know today. In honor of Black History Month, we are celebrating the contributions and accomplishments of Chicago's Black Architects. These innovative buildings are not only monumental as standalone feats of architecture, but serve as testaments to the talent, perseverance and rightful success of their creators.
Today we are showcasing the Ping Tom Memorial Park, the project according to curbed "turned Chinatown’s riverfront from an unused industrial strip of land into a beautiful public space. The Johnson & Lee-designed boathouse was the first built along the Chicago River to promote recreation use. The project was a collaborative effort between Chris Lee, Jeanne Gang and students from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
