When my cute little dog was trying to lap up water from a chlorine/saltwater pool, I got involved and try to stop her. But when I did, she nipped at me.
I was trying to help her, care for her, protect her, and prevent her from harming herself...and she nipped at me as if I was there to do something bad.
And as I thought about it, I concluded that in many ways, I am just like my dog. We are all just like my dog. Often we put ourselves in situations where it’s spiritually dangerous for us, harmful for us, or potentially disastrous for us. God, however, comes in with His kind protection by bringing in avenues of rescue...and many of us choose to nip at Him as He’s trying to help.
We think He’s there trying to spoil our fun, or prevent us from flourishing, but He’s really pulling us away from danger because He loves us. He cares for us. He wants to protect us.
Love draws boundary lines. We simply need to trust the One who makes those lines as a good and loving ...
