#OnThisDay in 1983, the men's & women's 100m World Records fell within 15-minutes of each other at the National Sports Festival in Colorado Springs. First was Evelyn Ashford, fresh off anchoring the American record-setting 4x1, clocked 10.79 breaking the previous mark 10.81. Many reporters on site missed the 2nd WR, since they were still interviewing Ashford when Calvin Smith won the men’s 100m in 9.93 to break Jim Hines’s mark of 9.95, which had been set in the altitude of Mexico City at the 1968 Olympics. #VintageUSATF
