The Downtown Calgary Development Incentive Program is a major driver of our vision and goals for creating a vibrant and thriving Downtown Core.
The Downtown Calgary Development Incentive Program was created to remove excess office space downtown and reactivate underutilized buildings with the goals of supporting Calgary’s fiscal sustainability, creating homes for Calgarians downtown, and supporting downtown vibrancy.
To date, 14 projects are under consideration for funding within the program, which will see the removal of 2 million square feet of empty office space from our downtown and create more than 2,000 homes for Calgarians.
Due to the initial success of this program, we are expanding it to include office conversions to hotels, schools and performing arts spaces. We’re also creating two new programs to support the removal of office space, through post-secondary conversion as well as demolition for end-of-life office buildings.
