Today, September 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (#OrangeShirtDay) which is a day to commemorate the Indian Residential School experiences and to witness and honour the healing journey of the survivors and their families. It also continues the ongoing process of reconciliation. With our Indigenous Relations Office, we're committed to working with the community to educate people about the history of Indigenous people in Calgary and the surrounding areas. Stay informed and get involved: • Educate yourself about Canada’s colonial history and its assimilation policies, including Indian Residential Schools. • Read the White Goose Flying Report, which was developed to highlight Calls to Action outlined by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission that we will take action on (calgary.ca/orangeshirtday) • Share how you’re commemorating the day & join the conversation in reconciliation with Indigenous communities. #OrangeShirtDayYYC
