Throughout the pandemic, we have seen increased or steady demand in the majority of our services. Some of these might surprise you: 🔨 Building permit volume is at a 15-year high, as of our reporting for 2021 up to the end of August. Single construction permit volume is at a 7-year high, as is overall construction value, driven by home renovations and patio requests. Residential improvement volume is at an all-time high. 🚒 From January to September, 2021, our fire department saw a 40 per cent increase in fire incidents and an 18 per cent increase in critical medical incidents, compared to 2020. Fire inspection requests are also trending higher. 💦 We saw a shift in water usage, with a decline in demand from businesses and a rise in demand in homes. 🌳 The use of Calgary’s open space system increased substantially and the value of our parks became even more apparent.
