Everyone’s first reaction to any roster drop is to get worked up about who is or is not on it. Let’s call this PHASE 1, and I think it’s fair to give people a day to complain, question and essentially vent. Go ahead and throw around phrases like “he is trash” about dudes who — if we saw them in a pickup game — we’d be like “holy shit that’s the best player I’ve ever seen”. That, after all, is our soccergod-given right as fans.
The time for venting is over. We are now in PHASE 2, which is when we take a moment to reflect on the fact we are talking about the hopes and dreams of real actual human people who have suffered and sacrificed for decades working towards the goal of playing for usmnt in a World Cup. Some guys barely made the cut. Others barely missed it.
