Grab some tinfoil and a handful of pennies — we’re going to build a ⛵!⁣ ⁣ Katie Beachem, a fourth year Ph.D. student in the Integrative and Evolutionary Biology program at USC Dornsife, shares a quick, fun lesson in buoyancy for kids. ⁣ ⁣ Katie participates in the Young Scientists Program (YSP) through USC Dornsife’s Joint Educational Project. Through YSP, USC students help promote science literacy to local elementary school students through hands-on scientific demonstrations.⁣ ⁣ Katie loves YSP because she gets to share her passion for science and teaching with kids. “Engaging in science at a young age is what drove me to become a scientist and I hope to pique that interest in the next generation,” she says.⁣ ⁣ We encourage you to share this science project with a child!
