EMMA EDWARDS GREEN Did you know Idaho’s state seal was designed by a woman? She’s the ONLY woman to design a state seal. The seal depicts a miner and a woman representing equality, liberty, and justice. The symbols you see on the seal represent Idaho’s natural resources: mines, forests, farmland, and wildlife. In 1891, Green was invited to submit a design for the Idaho state seal competition. On May 5, 1891 Governor N.B. Willey paid her $100 for her design. The original painting is at held at the idstatehistoricalsociety . This seal in my hand is an amazing gift from idahowomeninleadership ❤️ Happy International Women’s Day!! #IdahoFacts #IdahoHistory
