A veteran who served four years in the U.S. Army Reserve, he chose MarionMilitary to pursue his education prior to transferring to AuburnMontgomery. At the time he was elected mayor in 2019, he was the youngest mayor in the state of Alabama. Mayor Ragland said his desire to serve people is what led him to political service, but that many of the lessons he learned at Marion are what have helped him lead successfully. He remains connected to an English instructor who inspired him at the college. “My story and Marion are so interconnected I can’t even imagine how life would be without it,” he said. “Leadership is key.
