Speaking of Greco-Roman influences: the ancient Roman goddess "Libertas" is the inspiration behind a wide range of international symbols of freedom ranging from France's "Marianne" to Tiananmen Square's "Goddess of Democracy". She is also the inspiration behind our own Statue of Liberty, whom's 1886 inauguration we were shocked to learn was paradoxically closed to women? Not easily deterred, the Suffragettes used the occasion to stage a floating protest for the right to vote!
