Meet WXYC, UNC’s student-run, free-form radio station! 📻 Along with regular shows, DJs have the opportunity to write album reviews, interview or photograph artists at shows, and help facilitate events, such as live shows! The station has a handful of special on-air programs including Backyard BBQ — a weekly show where local bands play live on air. WXYC has an impressive collection of 70,000 CDs and vinyl records at their disposal, and a unique history: In 1994, the radio station became the first ever to stream its on-air signal live over the internet. “Story goes, they just put a computer mic next to a boombox in a window of Wilson Library and the rest was history.
