John Robert Lewis was an American politician and civil rights, activist. A recipient of numerous awards including the MLK Non-Violent Peace Prize, and the John F. Kennedy "Profile in Courage Award" - he was an advocate for positive social change throughout his entire lifetime. During the Civil Rights movement, he marched alongside leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr., and in 1987 he began serving in the United States House of Representatives for Georgia's 5th Congressional District where he remained until his passing in 2020. ⁠ ⁠ "Ours is not the struggle of one day, one week, or one year.
