The Portland International Airport will debut its renovated main terminal in August, a three-month delay following a series of construction safety scares.
The Port of Portland briefly halted work in February after worksite accidents spilled into operating parts of the terminal. No one was injured in the incidents, which primarily affected employee-only areas.
The incidents that prompted the delay included debris falling through the ceiling of a workers-only restroom that an employee had just exited and a worker dropping a metal panel from a lift into a ticket counter area.
As construction resumed, the port implemented a new safety plan, reduced overtime hours and creating larger work zones to isolate construction from other areas and adding staff to supervise construction.
