In brief conversation with him we talked about how as coaches and researchers we “value” sleep. We PREACH, PREACH, and PREACH again about the importance of getting at least “7-10 hours”. It’s not only important for recovery (we say), but also mental clarity and performance (the studies show time and time again). Yet, we as coaches prescribe training early as hell in the mornings...and we know our athletes are not going to bed at 9am with their social life and academic commitment to fulfill the sleep requirement imposed by us. To top the icing off on the cake 🍰, WE as coaches often embrace “the grind” where we brag about the long hours and little sleep, yet we still “get stuff done”.
