Announced in 1997, the merger of Citizens Trust Bank with First Southern created the nation’s third-largest black-owned commercial bank and brought together First Southern Chairman Gregory Baranco (left), Citizens Trust Chairman Herman J. Russell (right) and First Southern President James E. Young (center).
