The Oregon Zoo’s two new rare Amur tigers, Dmitri and Luka, have been playful and are fitting in well according to staff. Born in Minot, North Dakota, in 2022, the brothers celebrated their second birthday on March 19.
Amur tigers, also known as Siberian tigers, are the largest of the nine tiger subspecies and are at serious risk of extinction with only about 500 believed to remain in their native range. They can weigh over 400 pounds and reach ten feet long from head-to-tail. They have webbed paws and are great swimmers.
