Change can happen when we listen to others’ voices who have different experiences than us. All too often we surround ourselves with people who look like us, talk like us, grew up in similar situations to us, and ultimately share the same views about the world. I know my community does not get to listen to the voices of black women nearly enough, so I’m going to take action today to amplify the voice of a black woman who has her own story to tell through the #sharethemicnow initiative. I’d like to introduce you to Chiaka Ogbogu (chiaka11). Chiaka plays for the US Women’s Volleyball team, is a University of Texas alum, firmly believes that representation matters, and when she’s not training she is involved in mentorship of young athletes.
