It’s not every day that someone from Douala, Cameroon, makes history- but it has happened more than you think!
This extremely talented man is Manu Dibango. Born in Douala, he grew up to become an insanely skilled musician, especially in jazz and funk music. He originated the line “Ma ma-se, ma ma-sa, ma ma-kossa”, which has been sampled in various popular songs, including Michael Jackson’s “Wanna Be Startin’ Something”. Makossa actually means “dance” in Duala, and is a form of music and dance that originated in Douala.
His legacy has left a lasting mark on pop culture!
