NEWS: College of Science hosts 'Totality Awesome' solar eclipse pre-party Last Saturday, the College of Science held a solar eclipse pre-party called Totality Awesome which aimed to educate Denton residents about the upcoming total solar eclipse. It was nearly 150 years ago when Texas last saw a total solar eclipse cross its sky. On April 8, Texas residents will get a once in a lifetime chance to watch the moon completely cover the sun. Experts, including Dr. Rebekah Purvis of the university's physics department, recommend those who participate in the viewing wear proper solar eclipse glasses to protect their eyes. Purvis said Denton will see 99.86 percent totality.
