Each rugby union team includes two flankers -- which are classified as either blindside or openside (no. 6 and 7 respectively). While openside flanker is typically the first one out of the scrum on defense, both flankers play a key role in each phase of play, typically protecting or contesting the ball. Their roles are also extremely active in lineouts -- either lifting or jumping, driving in mauls/scrums and heavy participation in rucks. Due to the physical demand of being a flanker, the position is often times filled by the most well-rounded player. Tag your favorite flanker below! 👇🏽
