After the Emanuel AME shooting, I said enough is enough. Together, with whipclyburn and grassroots leaders in the Lowcountry, we passed a bill earlier this year to finally close the “Charleston Loophole.” Since 1998, over 60,000 firearms have been sold to prohibited gun owners because a of a loophole in our laws that allow a gun to be sold if a background check doesn’t come back within three days. Our legislation closes that loophole by extending the initial background check review period while still protecting the rights of law-abiding gun purchasers.
