Giraffes live in two kids of journeys, either as family of related females and their children or as a group of unrelated rambunctious adult males. In male journeys, these gentle giants establish social hierarchies through “necking,” or neck-based combat. Giraffe mating rituals are definitely one for the books. Male giraffes will follow around females, hitting their heads on female butts to smell for pheromones. This may result in a LONG 400+ day pregnancy.
