Okapi. It’s gotta be related to the zebra, right? Actually, it’s the only living relative of the giraffe! Sometimes called the forest giraffe, okapis are an endangered species native to the rainforests of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Note the horn-like ossicones on top of its head – unique to only the okapi and giraffe. Ossicones start out as cartilage and over time harden into bone during a process called ossification and fuse to the skull. .
