explosions in the sky // los angeles // 2024 For newnoisemagazine I’m 99.99% certain that my first exposure to Explosions in the Sky was through watching Friday Night Lights. I don’t know if there’s a more appropriate way for me to have first heard them. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but once I made it to college and some friends showed me more of their work, and fellow Texas post-rock band This Will Destroy You, I was hooked. I didn’t see them until (I think) 2016, and hadn’t seen them since. Tonight I did. The way a band can, without a single lyric, take you through the breadth of emotions that they do, is nothing short of incredible. Also, give me a photo of someone kneeling/sitting/lying on a stage. They just carry an energy that I’m drawn to.
