I still haven't been able to see them live, but last spring, while I was covering South by So What (now @sowhatmusicfest) I noticed Mike performing with @thejesselawson and decided I'd try to get a quick portrait after the set and let him know how much I loved the music he's made. Later in the weekend, I also got to see Mike jump in with The Ataris to play and sing while the band covered Boys of Summer. Pretty solid way to see someone who's music had such a strong influence on you growing up live, even if it isn't playing the music you grew up on.
