Fall in visitwv is also known as West Virginia’s “5th season” — Gauley Season! What’s Gauley season you may be wondering? It’s a 6-week period in September and October where the dam controlled Gauley River is released, producing world-class rapids. I spent a day rafting Class IV and V rapids on the Gauley with river.expeditions and it was probably the most fun day I have ever had. Top five for sure. It felt so empowering and humbling and exciting and invigorating. All at once. To work together with former strangers to accomplish a big goal. To truly learn what the river wanted to teach me that day. So much more than even I could fit into a caption. It was incredible. And a must for anyone visiting.
